What duties do business owners have to light stairwells and parking garages?

Business owners have a duty to keep their property in reasonably safe condition. If they know of a condition that is dangerous, then they have a duty to either fix that condition or warn of that condition. Oftentimes, a real simple security measure is to put lights on. I can’t imagine a property owner not being with it enough to put lights in a stairwell.

While those things are not absolute, oftentimes you look for what is reasonable and what should the property owner do. We analyze those kind of things. If you have questions about it, feel free to call our law firm and consult with us.
